First Supper

Have a seat at the table

"In my body of work, I combine aspects of Renaissance iconography and fabrics with a fauvist style, delivering a modern composition with an interplay between subjects, objects, patterns and color blocks. I strive to create a visual language that speaks to our modern world and resonates with its viewers. "

Launched on the 11th of February, the 'First Supper' project was designed to offer an immersive experience at the hotel’s social eatery, Open Sesame, where guests were not merely observers; they were invited to become active participants in the artwork. Guests also had the unique opportunity to engage with the artist, gaining insights into the inspiration and techniques behind the remarkable artworks on display. Renowned in both the Indian and Middle Eastern art scenes, Keerthana S Kumar gained prominence by her artistic prowess characterized by a distinctive style, utilizing acrylic mediums and knife painting techniques. Keerthana consistently explores vibrant, bold portrayals of women in contemporary art forms, adding a dynamic and modern touch to her creations.

"I am interested in the unusual juxtaposition of varied ethnicities united by pop culture and consumerism. ‘First Supper’ restages a classical work, replacing historic subjects with contemporary subjects of cultural diversity. In this day and age, it finally feels like there is a seat at the table for the deserving rather than the reserved. I continue to explore gestures and movement outside of the space-time continuum, creating a new perceived reality. In my body of work, I combine aspects of Renaissance iconography and fabrics with a fauvist style, delivering a modern composition with an interplay between subjects, objects, patterns and color blocks. I strive to create a visual language that speaks to our modern world and resonates with its viewers. This language is based on the concept of intersectionality, which is the idea that all human experiences are interconnected and intertwined. It seeks to evoke a sense of unity and understanding, and remind us that we are all part of the same global community,” said Keerthana S Kumar on her new collection which will be part of the permanent collection for Hotel Indigo Dubai Downtown.
